5/15 LJ PM Cookie Cutter

A little sloppy out there. No skiffs and 10 yaks. Kelp was up around the point and the water looked a nice blue. Saw one shoal of bait and nothing more on the surface. South wind did lay down a bit. I trolled the sabiki out to the spot. Tagged some greenbacks and put one out short and one long, both flylined. Around 5, the short one goes off, put it in gear, nice run and pop. Mackeral had the nicely creased, vice like crushed head. Should have let it eat a little longer, these were 9-10 inch greenbacks. About an hour later and picked up again. Took me for a ride and buried me in the kelp. This was a fiesty fish, after popping 6 stringers of kelp all wrapped on my line on the surface and the fish takes off across the surface. Started tearing the kelp away and finally had the fish under. Still not done it swam down a bit and finally swung it around more like a YT and stuck it. Thought for sure it had to be bigger than my last. Same length and about a pound lighter. I got plenty of fillets, so I think I'll be releasing anything under 50 now, and looking for them yellowtail.

Thanks for the picture Ryan.
