After a few reports of tuna being taken by way of kayak last week me and a couple of buds (a few of which are members here) decided get after 'em. We paddled out past the drop off (about 3-4 miles off the point) into about 1800' of water and worked around. We found some bait schools and surface puddles of bait but didn't hook into any tuna like we had hoped.
weather was excellent, surface conditions weren't bad either. Lots of signs of life, if they were around they weren't interested in anything we had. The bait we got from the barge was small, and didn't have much slime, probably hadn't been cured very long. If you decide to give it a shot try and make some fresh mackerel and forget the micro sized dines from the barge.
