Oceanside AR2, 5/31

Got out a little later than I wanted, got on the AR about a half hour after peak high. Got distracted by some healthy marks in about 50’ of water off the Pendleton side of the facing jetty.
Once I got on my preferred rock pile (3B), the fish were on the chew. Was tossing Master Baits tubes, first the “Tide Pod” discontinued color, and later an orange/gold flake.
Lots of hits on the drop, which I was less than effective at converting. Lots of calicos and sandies in the 11-13” range. Got thumped down deep, set the hook, and it started rolling. Fat Sandie surfaced, tore hell out of my tube. Released and switched colors.
Still getting bit on the drop and lots of chasers on the retrieve. Drifted over the edge of the pile, so started burning the bait to the surface to re-drop. Came to a dead stop about midwater (25-30’). Lots of give and take, saw deep color and dialed the drag back. A few more minutes of tug of war and a fat calico hit the surface.
Bite dropped out about 9am, and a stead S-SE swell with 10+ winds scheduled for noon, I headed back in. The mouth of the harbor was a little sporty, but all went smoothly and back at the docks safe and sound. Final count was a mixed bag of a dozen or so sandies and calicos, a few macs, and the two larger models.

TANFIO (There are no fish in Oceanside)
