First kayak fish of the new year was a blast.
The weather was perfect and the bite was killer.

Decided to tie on a Rat-L-Trap and troll and cast the shallows for the first part of the morning. One of my favorite lures. Don't fish hard baits too often but I'm glad I did.

I stopped counting after a dozen nice Calicos and couple Sandies. Biggest calico was 21"and she pulled lots of drag and straitened one of my treble hooks. Good thing she was pinned with the other hook as well. That lure catches fish east coast, west coast, salt, and fresh.

Second half of the morning was a pretty long paddle to a new spot I heard about with some deep structure. It's always fun to find new spots and this one was worth the paddle.

I marked lots of fish and landed 4 pretty good Calicos and a couple Sandbass on the Chasebaits squid. Left them biting. All fish released

Back at the car by noon

Cheers and happy new year,
Steve
