Yesterday was the May HOW event. We were a bit shorthanded, but we fished and had a great time. We launched around 8am and myself and the guy I fished with came in around 11.
No current when we launched, but there was breeze that shifted direction a lot. It did at least gave us drifts. The micro bass were playful and didn't seem to care about color. But, obviously the bait needed to be small. This was between the moored boats and the hotel dock to the south, fishing the drop off in shallow. My partner for the day got one in this area. I set him up with a 3" Big Hammer in City Shrimp on a 1/2oz Warbait head. I was using a Discontinued Owner Ultrahead weedless in 3/8th with mostly a Sexy Mullet Diesel Minnoz. Later I switched to Bad Shad and lost it We moved to the moored boats after getting word that some bigger models were there and biting. We didn't find any legals, but I found 3 12"+ models and my partner got one too. He was stoked until he dropped his rod in the water and the fish went with it. Got him another rod and fished for a bit more until he lost his hook and weight (he had switched to a dropper loop with squid). He decided then it was time to call it a day. It should be noted that this guy I was fishing with had never been on a kayak before. And, he had never been fishing. He had a blast and will be back.
