I do agree that a Gaff butt works well, as do a nice pair of heavy dikes. But wood clubs from oex are pretty darn cheap anyways.

And btw, your not going to crack a yak by hitting it while swinging at a fish with a billy club. Probably not even if your swinging at the yak. So unless our paddling a fiberglass boat, I wouldn't worry about that. Ive hit some boats very hard with hammers and such, nothing happens for the most part.
What really sucks is when you swing and miss the fish and the yak but connect with your knee
