Brothers @ it Again September 9th
Happy Saturday Fishing Family. FishingMike and I were out again this morning on San Diego Bay. We were a little concerned because access to our launch area was coned off for the triathalon. Fortunately we were there early and got to Kellogg Beach. We were there at 0540 and it was still dark. It was low tide, no breeze and the water was still warm. Couple boats headed out but other than that no one on the water.
Launched from the beach and trolled around the basin and missed a soft hit. Headed out intending to get to Zuniga Jetty. Turned out to be an easy trip since it was low tide. On the way out I trolled my croc and a motor oil red grub. My croc was useless today. My croc seemed to attract a lot of mackeral. FishingMike and I fished the south end of the jetty for approximately 3 hours. I received a couple soft bites that I just could not set the hook. Was feeling like an amateur. Finally landed a juvenile Hali. Landed a second about an hour later. FishingMike did better here than I. Decided to make our way back across and fish the area of the bait barge. Had one hit which turned out to be a decent sized mack. Wind picked up a lot around 1030. We moved to the lower range marker. Fought the wind the entire time but slayed the fish here. At one point I had a fish biting on two different poles. Did not know which one to work first. Landed them both It was a good way to end the day. Final count: FishingMike - 4 spotties, 2 halibut, 1 sandie, 1 cali, 1 sculpin Bubbacee - 7 cali, 7 mack, 2 hali, 1 sculpin Attached photos of the lures that served me well today. Also if you pass some trash and can do so, pick it up please. May the bite be good for you all!!! |
