MDR - 6/4/17

Hit the marina late on Sunday. I decided it would be fun to test my knowledge at a different time of day and it (mostly) paid off. Boat traffic was pretty nominal but the overcast skies made for a beautiful afternoon.

I planned to target specifically larger fish and to be at the break wall right at low tide. I paddled past my typical spots and went right to the north end of the wall. My first cast was around 1:30 with a really slow bite. Finally the bite opened up around 2:30 and I start to locate fish along the weed edges (10-15' off the rocks.) The bite was very on/off until it finally shut down around 5. Didn't find the bigger bass that I was looking for (I lost A LOT of short fish), but did finally get a consistent Calico bite.

Final fish count:

2 short Calicos
1 legal Calico
3 short Spots
1 short Sandie
1 short Halibut

FYI, that's the third Halibut that I've hooked fishing for bass, with very specific bass techniques (jerkbait, drop shot, shakeyhead.) This time this fish escaped with my hardware in its face so if anyone catches that fish with my rig, let me know. I don't want my secret MDR bait making its way around the interwebz. LOL
