Newport, 4-21-17
Busy day at the USCG/Harbor Patrol parking lot today. I pulled in at 6am and Landwhale and 2 other yakers were there and 2 more arrived shortly after me too. Steve and I made it out about 6:45. Air was cool (this didn't last too long) and clear. Water 65º and change with lots of crap floating on the surface.
We did our normal areas in the normal order. It wasn't until we got about 1/2 way up the channel that I got my first fish. It was a short spotty and it ate a 4" redbone Paddlerz on a Coolbaits 3/8oz underspin. Bites were few and far between when we moved over to the peninsula side. I got bit on a few different things, but it was a 1/2oz Warblade in green/yellow/white with a silver blade. This got me my only other fish, 2 short and very pissed off spotties. Missed quite a few also, because for what ever reason I was very slow in my hook sets. Guess I should have had my caffeine this morning? Eventually we moved across the channel and drifted back to the beach. Got a few bites, but that's it. Off the water by 10am.
