Nebraska Tailwalkers!
Because of the storm, for safety reasons the "Team" left the salt and the kayaks to go inland in search of the famous hard fighting, line breaking, tail-walking corn-fed Rainbows of Nebraska; we only had to go to Escondido to find them!
Dressed to the hilt in splash pants, boots and rain-gear, the team was well-prepared for the all-day rainstorm that day. Early-on spirits were high but fishin' was a bit slow... so what's a team to do? ... Break out the jerky and start chewin' of course! As usual, the fish followed suit and went on the chew too! Amazing how hard the Tail-walkers fight on 2-4 lb setups. A few were lost but just as many made it to the safety of the net... "Ricco-Tico" showed the team how it's done landing the first 4 'lber on 2 pound test... He's such a "ham!" So is his teammate "RockinRolan"... The "Romanator" was 1 for 3 on the 2lb... Overall, because of our preparations the day turned out to be a fun, safe experience for the RedSledTeam as we all caught fish.....except at the end of the day at the final siren, the bass chair broke under my modest weight and I flipped over backwards onto the frigid lake! My splash pants did its job and kept me dry from the waist down but, my splash jacket collected a souvenir gallon or two of Lake Wohlford's finest drink!!! I'm just glad it was a very short boat ride back to the dock and of course, I happened to have a spare set of clothes, just in case. |
