Slow Fishing... But... (video added)
Not many posts happening these days, so I thought I would share a fish from a few weeks back...
Sometimes when the fishing is slow, all it takes is a little shift of tactics or location to find a special opportunity. I made like 5 trips just trying for halis, and not a single shorty. I tried secret spots, not so secret spots, and damn crowded spots. Trap hooks, light line, lizard fish... all the recently debated methods endorsed by the Sewer halibut gurus, and the local mysto set. Ended up that a reverse dropper green back on straight 50# mono, no trap, did the job. I metered this fish for several seconds before she lit up my smallish GB. Luckily I have watched enough Greg Andrew videos to have the 'but gaffing technique down. I've caught many big fish, but this one was something very special. I was screaming like a giddy little schoolgirl when I got the gameclip in her. 46# of the most beastly and delicious dinosaur the pacific ocean has to offer. Anyone doubt the weight?
