Through-hull sealant advice
Hi guys, doing some maintenance to the kayak and need some advice.
The FF wires pass through the hull with a rubber grommet that has sealant over it. The sealant is failing and I'd like to make it water tight. A search through the forum archives has brought up a couple of products, mainly the 3M marine sealant 4200 and 5200. Another couple of google searches has led me down the rabbit hole on the boat forums about which one to use. I also read some stuff that said neither was suitable for plastic/silicone. So.. any ideas what's on there now? It seems pretty hardy and flexible, and is failing after a long time (I'm second owner on the yak and the FF probably got installed 8 years ago). And any ideas on what I should use to get a similar effect? Cheers! P.S. let me know if the image is broken. I'm messing around with google photos to see if it will work. Edit: changed the host url in the hopes that people can see the picture. Last edited by warburto; 02-05-2016 at 12:02 PM. |
