SD bay Butts and spots 5/31 am

I hit the bay up solo on Saturday morning. I got there at grey light and paddled over to look for some flat type fish while the tide was still moving. I got to the 1st spot I wanted to try and dropped down the bottom rig. I then proceeded to cast out the plastic for the first toss of the morning. As soon as my lead head hit the bottom...my bottom rig began to show signs of a bite. I put down one rod and picked up the other. A couple of small tugs and I set the hook. 1st fish of the day and it felt decent. It made two runs on the 12 lb test and then settled in for a netting. 1st flattie and it went just under 25inches. I continued to fish the area for a bunch of short hali's (some just barely) and a few sand bass to go with.

At one point I was reeling in the gulp bait I had on a lead head and I was slammed by something big right next to the yak. This was on the 8lb test and it made several runs that peeled drag nicely. A bit of a battle but I finally got this fish next to the yak. A nice size Corvina (Corgina) that looked to be longer than the butt I had caught a few minutes ago. I got out the net and that is when it came unbuttoned. Next time.

The tide went slack and I headed over towards the launch and looked for spotties. I found them chewing in several places. Fished my way back to the launch catching spotties all the way back. Not big fish.....but fun to catch anyway. I was catching them on the 6lb test. Made it fun.

I finished my cigar and was off the water by 10am. NIce day with a lot of fish caught. Wish I could have landed that Corgina. Gulps and assorted plastics were the ticket today. Had to work for the fish when the tide slacked....but they could be found.

Fish Count:

8 Flatties (shorts up to 24in)
4 Turdrollers (12 to 15in)
17 Spotties (dinks to 14in)

All C&R

Oh Ya.... The 1st Camp Sherminator trip of this year will be held this Wednesday at Fiesta Island. We should get there around 4pm. A few of us fish the yaks and then come back to camp to BBQ and hang out around the bonfire. The wives and others are usually there getting things ready. Good times....good times.
