Launched around 6:30 to ankle slappers, water 73-74 and blue out there. Bait was tough, kept heading south until the smelt turned to spanish, then it was 3 or 4 at a time. No greenbacks for me today. Tanked up and headed toward the canyon. Lots of spots of bonito busting small stuff, they would attack any floating stringer holding bait. Worked 200-300 feet, hoping for an exotic without logging 20 miles. Saw one spot of bigger fish, that was definitely not bonito. moving into the NWC and saw a bunch of birds sitting so headed their way and got picked up by a 12 pound YT, gut hooked and bleeding he became dinner. After stowing it I noticed the birds were on a decent paddie and circled it. Saw a few good marks 30 feet under it. Swung around it and got picked up by another YT a little bigger than the 1st. This one was an easy release. Kept heading in, only one more boney on the way in. High tide landing between the K rail and the big ol pile of kelp and sand, luckily still ankle slappers.
