My "not so little" little brothers first
My little bro made it down to visit today and I decided to take him out for a shot at some yellows! He plays volleyball for ucla and has a crazy busy schedule so being able to link up with him was pretty rare! I say he's not so little because he's 6'8" and about 200 pounds (skin and bones!!!)
Anyways I just picked up my new 13' Revo from fast lane in mission bay and was itching to get out and get errrr bloody! He met me at the shores at 545 and I gave him the run down of how our day was gonna go. We found a ton of Spanish macks right off the kelp and filled the tank in about 10 minutes. Saw some action near the canyon so we jammed over there and found greenbacks jumping out of the water. He hooked two and I got two. Gave some Spanish to a guy in a green prowler.... To make some room for the greenies and off we went. Saw that most everyone was sticking near the kelp and heading south. So naturally we went out in deeper water with no one around. Set two greenies out and once again gave him the quick and dirty what to do if the clicker goes off. 10 minutes later my number gets picked and the fight is on! He brings his line up and comes to grab the rod from me. I had already set the hook and the fish was diving. My little bro gets taken for his first sleigh ride and all I get to do is sit back and watch! And by watch I mean FaceTime our mom (back in Hawaii) and let her watch! After about 5 minutes I see that he isn't really gaining any line back so I head over to offer advice and help him out. Pull up reel down pull up reel down. He finally started getting the hang of it and in no time was putting the hurt on this little bruiser! We get it to color and and soon as he sees us he takes off straight to the bottom. This thing just started peeling line out and honest to God my little bro says "James I need you to take over my arms are killing me"!!! Keep in mind this collegiate athlete works out every dam day and has 5% body fat... So hearing him complain about getting his ass kicked was absolutely awesome! My response "suck it up! Our sister brought one in twice as quick!" A few more lift up reel downs and I sink the gaff into his first yellowtail! I told him if he caught one he had to eat the beating heart and of course I forget the knife... So I tear the gills out and try to push all the poop out of the stomach... He got lucky and didn't have to eat it but his next one has to be the whole thing! Didn't get a weight but my guess is close to 20#'s. We trolled around for a little longer and chased a few bird piles for one short bite... Something absolutely hammered his line and crushed our last greenie. All in all it was a great day and we will be eating some fresh fish tomorrow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
