Dana Point Goes Off - Friday..
I can die happy now as I was able to put my son on his first tuna today. Bait line was 90 minutes so we gave them the finger and went with jigs. At 8:30 they came up to play 8 miles off the point and it was the biggest, longest foamer I have seen this season out of Dana. We went 2 for 5 on the iron and I fought a bigger unit for 40 minutes - then it was a Mexican stand off at 40' below the boat as I could not bring her up. Eventually the hook pulled and while heart broken (est 70lb. fish) we caught up with the school and were on again. It wasn't as easy as last week as you had to cast repeatedly on top of the foamer to get bit - it was a show to remember. Bait ball was so thick when I would wind my jig in it would have one or two chovies hooked on the trebles. Fish were 40 and 45lbs. and ate blue and white as well as chrome and blue - Tady AA blue & chrome worked the best for me. Also ate the blue & white Salas 6X. Very proud dad today - As my son would say, "large".. Last edited by Tandem Assassin; 07-17-2015 at 04:14 PM. |
