WSB 11/29/14
Lucky local bite on fin-bait...
50lbs... When I first hit the water in the AM, Tony calls out on the radio, "Roby, I hope you land a black seabass, so I can see it whoop your ass." At about 8:30 AM, my bottom rig goes bendo. At first, it felt like a big, big halibut with the occasional headshake. Eventually, it started taking line out and it just seemed like I couldn't stop it - I thought for sure it was a black. I figured Tony was right about his prediction for the morning. Half way through the fight I was going to try and break it off because I couldn't gain any line, and at this point, I thought it was a shark. I could feel the line rubbing against the fish, and just thought it was the shark's skin. When it got to color, I was one happy camper. I missed the gaff shot on the first try. Then the WSB went under the kayak and my line almost tangled up with my mirage drive. Finally though, I nailed it and got it secured. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.... |
