Two New Species in a Day
Got to the sewer at 7am. A quarter mile from the launch I dropped the sabiki to pick up some bait. After about a minute I pulled up a couple small barracuda. Normally I wouldn’t post something this small but it was my first and seemed rare for Cabrillo.
I put my sabiki back down and started throwing a waxwing to see if there were any bigger barracuda with no luck, except one greenback on the sabiki. I trolled the mac along the entire breakwall then headed to the outside the breakwall with no luck. Since I couldn’t find any fish at all of the usual spots, I decided to hit up a spot I rarely see anyone fish. With the same mac I trolled all day, I started trolling this new spot and hooked up with my first white seabass. At about 24” this one made it back out to get a little bigger. It took a few minutes to recover from a deep hookset but then made its way back down. Sorry for the crotch shot. |
