9/16 report... not bad....
beautiful day.... actually HOT out on the water. There was definitely a swell today, not big, but impossible to get out without getting wet. Several flipped coming in as well.
I launched late, like 8:00 and a bit, after dropping kids at school. Looked like NOBODY was out. Maybe 6-8 yaks and almost zero power boats. Just perfect. Clean water, but darn.... took me a looooooong time to get bait. Only one Spanish, and then time after time, 1 or 2 or 3 little bonito. Ripped and tangled the sabiki. (note to self.... bring more sabikis, I went through three, and spent too much time untangling) After two hours, finally found the spot, and two drops pulled 5 greenies each... so 10 good bait. Hooray! Gave two away to friend. anyway..... one guy caught a YT, maybe 18 pounds, and a few were farmed.... by great fisherman, but hey, farmer today.... as well as a hammerhead was hooked, maybe 5' long, and a shark that jumped twice. After many hours of trolling for nada, when I decided to go in... wham! Long sleigh ride and a nice YT over 25 pounds, first big one in awhile.... feels good. Chris actually got it on video, and almost an epic fail, as it was gaffed, and on the game clip, but not secured, when it wiggled and fell off, but still on fishing hook, reeled it in again and took care of business. Whew! Sorry, photo later, but at least posting. They are definitely out there, and not much pressure, but watch the surf report..... not wide open, but very fishy. Late edit: Here's the photo: 28 pounds (Thanks Chris!) Last edited by seaquinn; 09-17-2014 at 02:40 PM. Reason: got the photo.... |
