No the right kind
I hit La Jolla in an attempt to get my first Calif. Yellowtail on my kayak, but the Yellowtail karma was not with me. Two guys fishing close to me (Mikey and I forgot the other guy name) each got nice yellowtails.
The only thing I could come up with was this WSB. Not that I’m complaining. I hit the water at 0600 and made bait rather quickly. Out of the first 10 baits I caught 9 were greenbacks, so I went fishing. I started slow trolling a flylined mac and I put another one on my Halibut rig and set it on the bottom. About 0730 I got something big on my top rig but it came unbuttoned before I saw what it was. Trolled till about 0830 when both lines got tangled and I spent about 15 minutes sorting it out. Then I sent a fresh mac to the bottom on the Halibut rig. As soon as it hit bottom the line started peel of my reel and it was Fish-ON. After about 10 minutes I had this WSB on my game clip and in my PA with a big grin on my face. I trolled around for another hour with no love so I headed to so I could get my fish on ice. I made my typical underwater landing, but nothing was lost. Great day on the water. WSB 52" 42 pounds |
