Yellow fin fever on the mission belle charter 7/29
Not a kayak trip but epic none the less.
Went out on the 3/4 day boat yesterday for an early birthday trip with my pops and brother out of Point Loma Landing on the mission belle. And ran into Jeff (slayer?), a fellow Bwe member who I recently met down in la jolla a couple of weeks ago. Super cool dude and it just goes to show ya that we are everywhere (especially when the fishing is this damn good) It was an all out feeding frenzy out there, roughly 30 miles offshore in Mexican waters. Saw massive pods of porpoises swimming and feeding early on while on the way to the fishing grounds. We had the trolling lines out with no luck on them but came upon some great spots marked by birds and all out chaos as the tuna were feeding and breaching the surface. The first spot was the most productive with nearly everyone hooking up on nice yellow fin tuna. Once the spot died, we moved on to another spot with the same luck. As the day dragged on, things slowed down but great quality fish kept on comming. All in all we totaled 12 fish between the 3 of us and the boat total came in at 129 yellow fin, 2 yellow tail, and 1 nice dorado. What a great way to start off my vacation time and a brilliant 25th birthday to remember with my family. I know it's not kayaking but the trip was too great not to share with you fellas. |
