Dana Point 6/11
This is a great time of year. Days are longer, the weather is warmer, and it's just like the postcards.
At the headlands at 6 am. I was working on bait...close the the kelp were senorita/kelp fish more than happy to get hooked. The smelt were jittery and uninterested in my sibiki. Off the kelp were fat green backs. I managed an assortment of bait (big macs, spanish, kelp) and dragged the bottom for nothing. The water was moving cause of the high tide, conditions were good. but the right kind of fish were not interested (I tried until 11: live, squid, plastics). Not so much as a strike. DP headlands was slow again. Here is something new for me. . . Bait pump or Battery wasn't working. Quick fix: Apply wine cork in the Pump's out-flow to prevent water from exiting the tank. Filled the bait tank w/ water using my hand bilge pump. From time to time pumped water in and the fish lived all morning. Good luck. |
