Hobie paddle-out @ Doheny
Thought some of you may be interested. Several of us from Dana Pt will be out there.
"Memorial ceremonies are set for Hobie Alter, who changed the way people use the ocean by his modernization of the surfboard and the invention of the Hobie Cat sailboat. Alter, who opened the first surf shop in Southern California but whose popularity spans far beyond the Orange County shoreline, died March 29 at 80. On Friday, April 18, a public paddle-out will take place at Doheny State Beach, where surf and sailing fans are welcome to join a celebration in the water from 4 to 7 p.m. The ceremony begins at about 4:30 p.m. Doheny State Beach officials are letting memorial attendees park for free. There is no beach boat launching, but boats can launch from the Dana Point harbor and must follow local boating rules and regulations." |
