La Jolla 10/31

Last chance for a WCW Oct. submission so I hit the water at 5:30 this morning and made bait at the pier. I was soon joined by Dennis who also hasn't been out in awhile. I left him there about 6:30 to head for the NW corner for some yellowtail fishing. I dropped a couple of big macs that were struggling to stay alive but almost right away a big sealion took one off my bottom rig. Perhaps for both our sakes he was wise enough not to follow me on out. The fog rolled in so you couldn't see the launch area but cleared once the sun came out. The wind died down and it was picture perfect fishing conditions around 8:30 when I got my first strike. Five minutes later up came a 15 lb. yellowtail and I was beginning to think they were extinct in La Jolla. Soon after, in the immediate area, the flyline rig got hit. Was I going to get a double today. I let this one run a little longer than the bottom rig and when I set the drag there was no resistance. I reeled it in to an empty hook. No sense in being greedy so I dropped off my remaining bait to another yak fisherman and landed by 10:00.
