Took the day off work on Monday to celebrate my birthday. Didn't look at the tide tables (didn't care), so when I got down to Shelter Island I was greeted by a 5.2' high tide. Launching was easy, nothing else was.

The early morning was sunny but by 930 the fog was rolling over the top of Point Loma and the wind kicked up big time. Temp dropped, so I had to put on a jacket.

Bummer.

Got a nice scoop of dines but had to hide out between the bait barges or risk getting blown to TJ.

There was no love on the outgoing tide. None. Nada. Even when tossing my "always works" plastic. I haven't been skunked in many moons.

Thank god for Sculpin IPA in a can and seals who are cool with kayaks. OTOH, I had the passing thought that if seals didn't like us kayakers, we'd be seriously screwed. There are some big toads out there with a mouth full of teeth.

Lovely day in spite of my lack of luck because.......I wasn't at work!
