Mission Bay, 12-2-13
Launched with Landwhale from Vacation Island at about 6:45 to very chilly offshores and partly cloudy skies. Water was clear and was about 61º. At some point the offshores stopped and and a very very light onshore turned on. The tide was REALLY HIGH. It was supposed to be going negative. You'd think that we'd have some current at some point. Well we saw none until going under the bridge at the end of the day.
We spent about 2hrs fishing off of Ski Beach where I pulled one and Steve pulled 3. I was getting bit left and right. Just couldn't make them stick. We moved over to sail bay where my streak continued, as did Steve's. He picked away at fish, I proceeded to be too slow on the hookset. We eventually hit up OEX for a bathroom break and to talk to CJ. He encouraged me in that pretty much everyone is having slow days. Back on the water things continued as they were. I finally gave up a 1/2hr early and was off the water a little after 11:30. I think Steve finished with 8 or 9, me 1. I won't give away Steve's baits, but I got my one fish and most of my bites on a c-rigged bait, Zoom Super Fluke in baby bass. I also got bit on a 4" Flurry in Fire Avocado. Zero bite on the blade. At the end of the day I know my biggest problem was focus. My mind kept drifting and then the fish would bite. It didn't help that most of the bites were just hen pecks. I was pretty grumpy by the time I got off the water. But by lunch time (yummy #1 at the Dana Landing market and deli) I was thankful for a really nice day on the water spent with a friend.
