Number Two ………… The Value of Information
So it takes me year to catch my first Yellowtail. Two and a half weeks later, I catch my second Yellowtail.
I have found that information is so valuable for this sport. You can get quite a bit of great information right here on this forum. That is not the type of information that I am talking about. The information that I am talking about is about the current bite (or lack of) and what they are biting on. You will not get this information on the internet in a timely manner, many reasons for that that I don't want to get into. What I am talking is first hand or second hand knowledge from a trusted friend. I have been going out early each week for the last few months to see " what is going on" This is also called "time on the water" which is by far the best way to learn this sport. A little over three weeks ago I went out on a Tuesday and this particular Tuesday, the beach was packed, hmmm bite on I guess. Yes there was a very good Yellowtail bite going on that I witnessed first hand. I missed catching one that day but I use the newly acquired "Valuable Information" to plan to go the following day. Wednesday same story, good bite and I missed. But the bite was still going on and I used this information to go a third day in a row. Thursday I find myself in a Wide Open Yellowtail Bite and I score my First Kayak Yellowtail and a big one at that. ……………. Next week try a couple times but the bite is off. ................ Following week slow but I start hearing stories of Yellows being caught on fin bait. Twice I have like 30 live squid and no yellows around to enjoy them. Macs devour them. I hear of more YT's being caught on fin bait. ……………………………. Following week, Monday I have like 40 live squid and no YT's around. More macs. I take a paddle and talk with guy who tells (thank you dude) me about the great bite on fin bait. Cool Very Valuable Info. I must use this very timely Information. I plan a trip for the following day. I cut off the squid jig and set up only for fin bait and fly lining. My friend Jeff wants to go fishing with me and a give him the very valuable timely information and he sets up for fin bait. (He double up as you can see in his post) So we go out on the ocean, make fin bait and start fishing. Maybe a half hour into fishing I get to go on a sleigh ride and pull up my second YT in two and half weeks, sweet. Then Jeff hooks up twice, wow, nice job dude. Mickey hook up but farms it. Three in our party and three yellows with one farmed seems like another wide open yellowtail bite to me. Great Day. BTW the Fin bait bite slowed way down ……… So I have learned the value of timely information. I go out a lot to see for myself as I love just being on the water. I am also building a network of friends for sharing timely info. Here's my number two ……………. Last edited by ctfphoto; 08-17-2013 at 02:05 PM. |
