Welcome to the addiction.

If you have a background in freshwater bass fishing you're in luck. Salt water bass don't know that they aren't freshwater bass. While there are differences between what the three species will eat. I.E. spotties and sandies won't eat top water, but calicoes will. All three will eat spinner baits. Worms (I like Swimmin' Senkos), grubs, and creature baits either Texas or Carolina rigged will work on all three too. Drop shot works for all three too. Swimbaits are probably the go to for most people though for all three species. Stick them on a Warbait Slayer head or regular triangle head. I use Hot Sauce for flavor.

For rods, you just need a couple of bass rods with reels to handle 6-20lb line. I usually use one 6lb set up and two 17lb. Though if you're in the bays you can go with more lighter setups and if you're out for big calicoes in say the kelp or on boilers then you can go heavier still.

Hope this helps you some.
