Yesterday morning I got out for a couple hours before work. I had a little action for such a short session. I landed about a 28 to30 inch halibut. I must have gaffed him in a bad spot, he bled like a stuck pig. So I grabbed him through the gills and tried to rinse him off in the water, which I was comfortable doing. He was kicking but I had a good hold on him. That is until to my surprise there was a hook in his mouth that stuck me in the finger, causing me to let go. If that fish survives the gaff wound, that's a fish with at least two lives. I didn't go home empty handed though. I did find this 25 incher at the bait barge first thing in the morning.
