Newport/Corona Kelp

Hit Newport about 6:00 a.m. and headed south out of the jetty to the kelp beds. No wind chop but the swells were a sight. Never seen anyone surf the waves INSIDE the jetty before. News trucks were parked by the Wedge and maybe a couple hundred people there when I made my way back in.

Didn't have any bait so I just fished 4 and 6" mini-hammers. Managed 5 non-legal calicos and this guy. Didn't see one other yaker fishing. I got a little too near the shore and it seemed like I got lifted up about 30 feet as some of the swells rolled in. Lots of fun. Managed 1 other small calico right off the CG station before calling it a day.
