LJ 15/16
Tuesday met a buddy at 2:15am at my house and we shot down to LJ. We are OTW by 5am....easy surf, a little eerie in the dark-- but easy. We paddle out to the pier-- on the way we get a dolphin escort. Make bait and by we are on our way to the fishing grounds. In shallow, I get a nice hit, and pull up a 5# calico. Not what I was hoping for. We paddle out to the kelp where there is already a kayak armada. Other than sea lions steeling baits and snags on the bottom-- uneventful for us despite our marathan paddles EVERYWHERE! 2 spear fisherman land wsb over 35#. I didn't hear of any fish landed for the kayakers. Water was dirty brown (darn red tide!), weather was cool and overcast, wind was a no show until the afternoon. Nice exercise for the day.
I decided since I was working in San Diego on wednesday, and the gear was ready to go-- I did a back to back visit. Left the house at 2:45am and OTW by 5:15am. Conditions similar as day before. On our way out-- jimbofish caught a small thresher==> maybe 40-50#....after a few pics, it self-released. At the grounds-- again an armada-- and no action. After 10am-- 2 WSB were landed. A couple of yellows were landed one early and one after 10am. Both were 10# (or less) class fish. I did hear of another small thresher caught early-- but that was it. I am planning on getting back to LJ in a couple weeks. Maybe my wsb is still waiting. Nice seeing you again Jimbo and Gary. Always nice to get out...until next time! -jason Jimbofish-- PM me your e-mail-- I'll shoot your pics over to you. Give me a couple days so when I'm back home I can DL the pics. |
