Well this trip started when I went to Borona and won $150 on the roulette tables Sunday night. Ya' know, I hate going to the casino, but my inlaws love it so I ended up getting suckered in. Took $40 bucks and chilled as soon as I got up on the house, did a lotta walking while my family lost all of their money. I always seem to win early on and I'm not much for letting the house get their money back. So after I won a little cash I decided to treat myself to a brand new Penn Senator 113HLW. I went on leave for the rest of my enlistment in the Marine Corps monday morning so it was already an awesome day.
Soon after I launched I met this fella named Shawn who had hooked up on his first YT, a nice 17# on a 25# spinning rig. I hung out and helped Shawn by gaffing the YT and teaching him how to bleed it to help preserve the meat.
For some reason it took me forever to make bait today so I tried to cast iron, troll rapalas, and make bait between 2:00 pm and about 6:30 pm only picking up a blue perch in the deep kelp on my sabiki line. Finally at 6:30 I picked up about 8 spanish macs in a quick succession and with the sun setting fast I knew it was time to slow troll one of those elusive bait fish. I was paddling slow and decided to try an scrambled egg iron at a random location because I didn't get a bite on the live line in the first 40 minutes. As I was slowly drifting while on the retrieve of my iron my new Senator 113 started singing. Woohooo!!!! What a way to break in this sweet new reel. I was able to quickly reel in this bad boy weighing in at 20# on the water and 19# when I got him home (finnicky scale I suppose).
