La Jolla on Thursday
We did our usual 4:30AM launch just after Arne and Dan headed to the pier. We went to the cans, and made enough bait for the day.
Started working our way to the NW corner. After 2 hours of solid drizzle, with only a bonito for Aaron to show for our wet efforts, we were about ready to just let the West wind drift us in while we soaked baits. Before we turned around another unknown kayaker just in front of us had a huge swirl on his fly-line. As we watched him set the hook and start his sleigh-ride, we made up our minds to go a little further. Just as we made our way close to the corner where the half day boats were anchored, Julie hooks into the right kind. Her yellow takes her straight down, finds kelp, then comes unbuttoned. A few minutes later Aaron nails his 1st firecracker. Julie adds a bonito for our smoker. Then Aaron goes on a tear nailing back-to-back, and then his first double, landing both of those too. A 5-pack for him, all around the 10 lb mark. Here's the beach shot: Met Jasmin on the beach who did well too.
