First time I have been able to get out this year. But it was worth it. Launched from baby's beach around 730. Puttered around the mouth for about 30 minutes and scratched out a 10" sand bass. Made me happy because it means I wasn't getting skunked (which doesn't happen often, just nice to get monkey of back early. My game plan was to pound the sand down to the southern most "no boat" bouy then work the pipe outside the harbor. Pounded sand for about 2 hrs with nothing, saw one guy get a leopard, didn't see how big though.
Headed to the pipe stopped at one of the very few kelp areas left after the storms. Managed to get a 12" calico.
Got to the pipe and fished for about 30 minutes when I hooked into what I though was a nice size halibut. Turns out I finally broke the 5lb bass club from a yak (only took me 4 years). Awesome looking Calico, made a great dinner too.
I just hope I didn't use up all my good fishing juju. I leave the 24th to go to Panama and I am spending two days fishing while I am down there.
