LJ yak report for Saturday
Launched at 4:30AM, made bait easily at the can and started fishing before 6:00AM. Everything was beautiful, the weather, nice clean warm water, lotsa bait around.
We searched in vain for the right kind for almost 5 hours. We really couldn't believe we weren't finding quality fish with such awesome circumstances. The only action during this time was Julie hooking up with a mako which cut her off. Around 10:30AM Julie spots a couple of yellows cruising 6 feet down, between us. At this point we were about 3 miles from the launch, a few hundred yards from where the morning 1/2 day boats were fishing. We circled back, when Aaron finally gets bit. It takes awhile before the fish is able to suck down his good-sized greenie. He makes short work of this 11 lber: We worked this area for awhile longer to no avail, so we pointed ourselves back to the launch. From this point on we had all kinds of action. We couldn't seem to escape the various sized barracuda and calicos. Some were very impressive including a 6 lb barracuda for Aaron and a 6 lb calico for Julie. Aaron also nailed a couple of short whites off of Boomer's. Except for the yellow and one gut hooked calico, all fish were released. We finally landed at the zoo at about 3:30PM. The action took awhile to get going but it turned into a rather fun day.
