A 5 yeller day
Launched at La Jolla at sunrise, made bait at the point, and began fishing soon after. Paddled south in front of the "big condo". Worked the areas outside of the kelp line until we have a double going. Julie's fish kelped her, Aaron landed a 6 lb bonito. Brought blue ice for such an occurrence, he'll join Monday's barracuda in the smoker.
Continued on, where we notice another yakker hooked up. He was ecstatic after he landed his white. His buddy followed up with one of the same. We paddled around and soon we had another double hook-up going. Aaron hooked up first, but Julie got hers in before he did, about a 10 lb yellowtail, released soon after. Aaron took awhile longer, probably because his yellow pegged at 27 lbs. We proceeded to fish. Right about the same time, another yakker we met previously, Jack (a fellow DPKFM member) hooked and landed his first white ever. Here he is with his catch: Maybe 45 minutes later as we started on our way back to the launch, we had another double going on yellowtail. Both landed and about 9 lbs each. Julie released hers. Just after Aaron boats his, his other clicker screams. A few minutes later, he boats another yellowtail about the same size. Here's a photo of him and the 3 we kept: Talked with Chris and Nelz for awhile on the water. Sorry to hear you guys missed out on the action. We called it a day and we were back at the launch by 11:30AM. It's definitely fishy out there.
