surface plugs for yellows?

From posts and articles I have read, it seems the go to lures for breezing / surface feeding yellow tail seems to be surface irons, krocodiles, perhaps a swimbait on light lead head. Does anyone see success with "walk the dog" type surface lures like rapala subwalk [sub-surface] or surface walker? How about straight up poppers? I would imagine that surface feeding is pretty aggressive behavior and these lures would work well.
Thanks for feedback.
