Update on proposed hoop net gear reg. changes
Hoop Net Gear Regulation changes?
Here is an up date on the DFG commission meeting in Sacramento yesterday (Nov. 5th). The commission was to discuss the proposed hoop net gear reg. changes. This is the total of the discussion… Nancy Folley DFG Chief of Enforcement… “We withdrew the notice for the “lobster traps” gear restriction in Southern California recently due to some of the scoping meetings we had down in Southern California and to address the public comment that we had there, we will re-notice before your next commission meeting, but because that’s in Southern California we anticipate that a lot of people would like to have public comment at that meeting. John Carlson…”And you’re working closely with those folks so hopefully.” Nancy Folley cut him off and said ”Yes we’ve taken into consideration all their comments given to the game wardens at the scoping meetings.” John Carlson…”Great. Thanks. Moving on…” It doesn’t seem like too much was discussed. I’m not sure how these things operate, but it sure seems like the commission should have more advance info, before placing a regulation before them to vote on. They are scheduled to vote to adopt the new regs.at the December meeting If you have an interest in these new reg. changes here is the info on the December 10th meeting and their rules on public comment at the meetings. December 10, 2009 Thursday Radisson Hotel - LAX ABC Ballroom 6225 West Century Blvd. Los Angeles, California The public is encouraged to comment on any item on the Commission’s meeting agenda. In order for the Commission to adequately consider public comments, the public is requested to submit written comments no later than ten days prior to the meeting. Written comments received fewer than ten days preceding the meeting will be submitted to the Commission at the meeting; however, Commission staff is unable to deliver material received one day before and on the day of the meeting to the Commissioners when the meeting is not in Sacramento. Please send your comments to be received no later than two days before the meeting. A “Public Forum” item is included on the agenda for each Commission meeting for any member of the public to address and/or ask questions of the Commission for items relating to the implementation of its policies or any other matter within the jurisdiction of the Commission. As a general rule, action cannot be taken on issues not listed on the agenda. Submittal of written comments is encouraged to ensure that all comments will be included in the record before the Commission. If you decide to speak at the Commission meeting, please begin by giving your name and affiliation (if any) and the number of people represented by your organization. Then tell the Commission your concerns in the time allotted by the President – usually five minutes or less. Time allotted for each agenda item depends upon the number of speakers for each item and the length of the agenda. The Commission is interested in your views; don't worry about how to say them. If several people have spoken, try not to be repetitious. If there are several with the same concerns, please try to appoint a spokesperson. The Commission is particularly interested in the specific reasons you are for or against a proposal because the Commission's decision needs to be based on specific reasons. If you would like to present handouts/written material to the Commission at the meeting, please provide eight (8) copies. Jim / Saba Slayer |
