Ya.......skunked again.
I was the lone knucklehead out there. Nice morning. Surf was 1-2 pre hightide launch and less than a foot around 10:30 landing. Wind was around 6 kts most of the morning shifting from east to south, then around 10 it kicked up to 10-15 kts from the SW, good time to head in. As I paddled out, I saw birds diving around the buoy. Some big spots of sardines rolling through. They were too small to eat the sabiki, but there were greenbacks under them. I put one flyline short and one long and slowtrolled the kelp edge out to about 3/4 to the corner. Soaked em and threw a swimbait and surface iron along the way. While stopped once, the clicker goes off on the long one. Let it run and put it in gear, as it loaded up the bait comes out, slowly reeling in it gets hit and dropped again. Hit again and I pop it out of gear and up pops a small seal with it. jerked it out of it's mouth and managed to get my severely chewed bait in without hooking JR. Good training, as I have not had a clicker fish in a looooong time. Saw a skiff and divers inside the point. Water inside was around 10 foot of visibility and green. Water got better around the 1/2 way mark, 15 feet or so and blue green. Still alot of flaoting grass and loose kelp. I am going to have to get creative with the grunion run this week and find some pointage.
