If you had no use for AAs and were starting from scratch, the 12v brick would probably be the way to go. (if you don't mind the additional weight, although in the whole scheme of things its really not that much) .
Already having lots of AAs for various gadgets and stuff and a charger my additional out put was $4 plus a wife's old tuperware. $2 for the 8 pack holder $2 for a pack of 5 - 9v connectors I actually bought a 12v battery from OEX, and a charger too, but I still prefer the AA solution, I guess its all a matter of personal preference.
