Nice story. It is a good thing he had a buddy with a power boat to bring him back. Based on the resilence of that billfish, I would argue in favor of calling it a Blue Marlin. I hope that he broke his line off at the knot, and did not cut the line. The tail of billfish is very sensitive. Sailfish have been known to swim until they die of exhaustion when they feel a line trailing across their tail.
