Dana Point Sat

Got down to Dana at 6:00 and got ready to launch. The weather was cloudy and cool with a good breeze blowing. After everyone signed in we launched of the dock at Dana Jet Ski. The weather and fishing the Caper keep me in the Harbor, not that the Caper woun't handle the water its just wetter than I wanted to get on Saturday. At the get together and BBQ talked to a number of the guys that ventured out to the point and Salt Creek area. They reported that with the wind and current made it real hard fishing and no catching.
Having never really fished the Harbor paddled down to the Baby Beach area and drifted the wind from this corner to the beach shoal.

Caught a short halibut

a sand bass

and a spottie

11:00 rode the outgoing tide down the channel to the bait barge

and caught this giant

The wind down at the entrance was blowing

Made 6 fast drifts for one sculpin.

Off the water at 1:00. 17 kayakers showed up for this little get together we had some great grub and handed out $170 to a 13 pound halibut that was caught on a plastic bait south of the harbor. I had a great time met some great new guys and am looking forward to the next one Jan 10th.
