12/6 Mixed bag & dinner too!
Launched the yak out of Shelter Island at around 0900. I hadn't been out feeshin off the plastic in over a month (hoopin don't count).
Target today was to try and get me a keeper flattie since my team & I were skunked on them last Sat. in the tourney . Proceeded over to one of my "go-to" spots and started drifting and casting. Spotties were hungry so I played with them for awhile. I was working the bottom using a jerk bait on a dropper loop on one rod while casting swim baits and Gulps on my light gear set up. Casted out a chartruese leadhead with a GULP! swimming mullet and started reeling in when WHAM! Knew it was the flat kind and eased it up on the 8#. Had the net in hand and on my lap he went for a quick spike to the head . Drifted some other spots for more fish including a couple checkers, lizard feesh, and more spotties. Called it a day around 1:00. Very relaxing morning on the water. Nice and warm, tide was moving good, and the water was flat. Counts: 12+ Spotted bay bass - C&R 2 Calico bass - C&R a few leezard feesh - C&R 1 tasty halibut that is about to go on the grill Peace, Spyder |
