Bunko Bugs 12-2-08
The wife had all the ladies over for bunko last night so I was being kicked out of the house. It was a great excuse for getting out after some bugs.
I hit SI launch around 3pm. Loaded up and on the water at 3:30. The tide was moving out and it made for a nice paddle out of the bay. I arrived at my spot an hour later and set the hoops for the coming sunset. There wasn't much wind and no fog. Things were looking good. There were a bunch of guys out last night and I met a cool guy named "Stretch" who was hooping solo on his skiff. He and I fished the same area and shot the shit for a while. He was already set in the area and I came up and asked to share some space. Didn't wan't to crowd anyone. After setting my 1st string an osprey lands on a pole close by me. The bird then plunges into the water right infront of the yak and comes up with a small fish. The bird of prey then returns to the same pole and waits another couple of minutes. SPLASH!!! again it hits the water right infront of the yak and comes up eating again. Very cool way to start the night. The 1st pull yielded a bunch of shorts and one just barely. A good sign. The next couple of hours was throwing back shorts and finding one that was a keeper. Ended the night around 8pm. The wind was coming up and I still had over three miles of paddling ahead of me. The tide was moving in hard and it was a quick paddle back. Made the 3miles in 40 minutes. Hit the beach and went to get a well deserved carne asada burrito. |
