Moving to San Diego

Sup y'all,

I'm moving from Santa Cruz to San Diego in a couple weeks. Been fishing for life, started kayak fishing in the ocean 5 years ago. I'm pretty active on the NCKA board. Up here we get into all sorts of fishing, my favorite is salmon.

My current kayak is a Tandem Island rigged for fishing. I've got a little outboard and routinely fish 5-10 miles off shore. I can't wait to start fishing down in San Diego.

I have a couple months off before starting work so I will have plenty of time to get on the water. It seems La Jolla is the most popular kayak launch spot, but I'm not a huge fan of surf launching my big rig. I've got a Silverado but its only 2wd(limited slip), so I'm not sure about driving on the sand there?

I'm thinking of launching out of mission bay and motoring up to La Jolla or some other deeper reefs. I realize there is a big MPA I'd have to waste time motoring through. OR cruise around it at 5-6 knots trolling some X-raps!! I'm curious what y'all think...Is launching out of mission bay a waste of time?

Thanks in advance.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the water. Look for a red tandem island.
