Newport 5-26-17 1st time outside the harbor
I went out on Friday 5/26 and launched from Kid Beach about 7:30AM then paddled out against the incoming tide until I past the jetties. I made a few pieces of bait just outside harbor then trolled a smaller mackerel around just in case a hungry shark was around but the main plan was fish for rockfish. I paddled straight past the buoy and fished a few spots from 150ft to 300 ft of water. I made a few random stops on what thought were some rocks but hard to tell on the fish finder everything seemed to be flat in deeper water. (Maybe I need to figure out how to adjust the dragonfly fish finder so they show up more clearly.) Also made a few stops after I saw some schools swim by me on the bottom. Not a bad trip but definitely a few lessons learned for next time.
fish count 2 small vermillion rockfish 1 copper rockfish 1 short sand bass in (180ft of water strange) 1 lizard fish 1 sculpin (sorry no pics I left my phone in my truck) I was only one outside the harbor that morning on a Tarpon 14 and the wind was light 5 to 7 kts. I was done by 11:45. -gabe Last edited by ore714; 05-30-2017 at 12:46 PM. Reason: words |
