Dana hooping
Figured to share my experience hooping as of late. It's been a tough season so far. Opening was mediocre and the following week fair to good. Then we came up on this bigger/brighter moon phase that kept me sidelined because I didn't remember if i liked to hoop in a big moon or not.
So last night I headed out with a small 4lb bag of macks. Finding macs during previous hooping sessions was easy. I actually would come home with more bait that I started with. A good problem. Last night the macs were gone. The moon was bright by 8 pm, almost as if someone was flashing a light behind me. I kept looking back expecting to see a light on me, but it was the moon. I remembered I did not like hooping with a big moon. The bugs were crawling, typical dana shorts. And this season, many many eels. nasty critters. The water appeared clear, high tide at 10 pm, little wind but a storm moving in. I could see the cloud cover build. With only 1 bug on board I called it a session. NO skunk but damn close. My wife said... "only 1 lobster? ..... what are you gonna do with that?" I hope your spots are producing. |
