Fishing Cedros June 15-20 with the Hobie Crew
Sorry for the late report. Had back to back trips in June. Mid June was good to us and there was a lot of fish caught. We were lucky enough to be on the early flight and after a quick sashimi lunch we were fishing in the Hobie outbacks. Morgan immediately caught a nice Broomtail along the breakwall and Kevin followed up with a nice bass. Yours truly caught about a 12lb yellowtail that we kept for dinner. Once back at the pad the boys help rig the yaks with color fish finders and bait tanks.
First full day we fished the salt factory. Vince hooked a 40lber on his bass tackle and a bucktail jig. After a good fight he bagged the beast. Shortly there after yours truly hooked into what is now a pending World Record Broomtail Grouper. 108.6lb. Great fight on my Phenix M-1 inshore rod and Okuma Komodo reel with 65lb power pro and 35lb leader. Thank you Kevin Nakada for taking all the time to help us properly document the catch as well as filet it and prepare some great meals. Day 2-4 saw lots of smaller Yellows and loads of Calicos. We did make it to Waylie one morning but only got to fish for about 2 hours before a strong offshore blew us back to the other side of the island. Kevin did bag a nice 6lb bass while we were there. Overall a great trip and we all had a great time. Having the Hobie kayaks fully rigged is so nice. I can't believe all the rock piles and schools of fish we were able to find and then drop down to them for some amazing fun. |
