First post first report. Rincon black friday

I'll start with a little about me. I recently moved to SoCal from WI. My name is soggybottom and I'm addicted to fishing. The first order of business after getting settled here was buying a new kayak and hitting the ocean. I've kayak fished freshwater many times, but never the ocean before moving here.

Now the report. I've been sticking to the harbors since getting my kayak, but today I decided to try a surf launch. I decided on Rincon island.

My surf launch was drama free. Trolled for bait on my way to the island and caught a few macs and a jack smelt. Tried throwing big hammers around the island for about an hour with no luck.

Wind was up so I tried my luck drifting. Caught this guy on my third or fourth drift.

Couldn't find anymore takers after that. Oh well, at least it was a beautiful evening to be out.

Saw my first dolphins from the yak today

my landing didnt go as smooth as my launch. I rolled in the surf. I had everything lashed down though, so lost nothing but a little pride.
