I do have an actual Sabiki stick. I'm just trying to avoid bringing another rod with me each trip. I admit this would be the best way to go because the Sabiki rig winds up inside of the rod and remains there until it's needed again. Which solves the storage and tangling issue.

But for now I'm on an old Hank Parker edition outback and the built in crappy rod holders are designed for thin bass rods and not the thicker boat rods we use for salt water. So rod storage is at a premium on my old yak.
